Hello and Welcome!
As a multi-disciplinary artist dividing my time between Ontario and Newfoundland, Canada, my work is deeply inspired by the natural beauty around me. Whether I'm exploring the wild fields and forests of Georgian Bay or observing the rugged shores of the Atlantic, my art is intuitive and memory-based. Using a muted palette and intentional mark-making, each piece—whether a painting, collage or print—is a visceral response to nature. I love working with natural earth pigments and botanical inks, which strengthen my connection to the land.
I've been lucky to exhibit my work in various venues such as The MacLaren Art Centre, Brother’s Brewing Company, The Albion Hotel, The Royal Victoria Hospital, and more. My art has also been featured in publications like The Motherhood of Art, Mother Muse Magazine, Makers Movement, and In Her Studio Magazine. You can find an interview discussing my sustainable art practice in an interview with Inge Flinte. My work is part of collections worldwide, including Canada, the USA, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Follow my daily art journey on Instagram!
I currently split my time between Georgian Bay, Ontario, and Conception Bay South, Newfoundland. When I'm not in the studio, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our studio dog, Luna. I love foraging, making botanical inks, experimenting with textiles, and pressing flowers. Antique shops and galleries are my happy places. If you're ever up for a studio tour, let me know—I'll put the kettle on!
“Art and nature are so tightly interwoven for me that to experience one without the other isn’t possible.”
— Lisa McLinden
ARTIST STATEMENT
Constantly curious and feeling a deep pull to rediscover the spaces that surrounded me as a child, I rely solely on memory and quiet observation to reveal these interpretations in my work. The daughter of nomadic parents, I would venture to find balance between the excitement and wonder of new spaces, and a deep longing to experience a sense of home within myself. This longing for serenity and acceptance was consistently found within the natural atmospheres and open spaces that surrounded me.
Today, there continues to exist a deep-rooted acceptance, a sense of kinship, that I viscerally experience while immersed in nature. Always humbled by its sense of wonder and mystery, I’m particularly drawn to the perceptions that exist within an elusive horizon, open field of wildflowers, or the rugged, barren landscapes near the sea. A deep longing to accept what only the natural world can teach me, I’ve surrendered to the knowledge that there are new perspectives within every discovery of place, even those I once believed to be familiar.
The process of foraging for pigment, making paints and inks, and preserving botanicals, combined with the act of creating itself, all transport me to a place free of distraction and uncertainty. While quieting the mind and creating a direct response to the landscape, I find that there is an immense power in the mood conveyed with a muted, minimal palette, vast expanses and purposeful mark making. As each painting or collage unfolds, it acts as a visual narrative inviting the viewer to experience a moment of solitude, contemplation, and reflection.
